Solid Direction for Managing Change

For the policy-making executive seeking to effectively manage today's changing law enforcement environment, EMP enhances skills in a wide range of management areas. The EMP has addressed:

  • Critical Incident Command
  • Crime Control Strategies
  • Information Technology
  • Issues in Recruitment and Selection
  • Understanding and Countering the Terrorist Mindset
  • Police Officer Assessment, Selection and Promotion
  • Police-Media Relations
  • Managing Emergency Vehicle Operational Risks
  • Managing the Problem Employee
  • Police Discipline and Accountability
  • Police Executives in the Political Environment
  • Police Ethics
  • Racial Profiling

In 1994 the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety began a unique partnership with the Illinois Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board to provide the Executive Management Program (EMP) to law enforcement executives in Illinois.  Thus far there have been more than twenty EMP sessions. In addition to the programs in Illinois we have convened sessions in New Jersey and Ohio.

THE MOST RENOWNED INSTRUCTORS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Another factor contributing to the EMP's success is that we spared no effort in assembling a
faculty of professionals who are in the forefront of shaping the future of law enforcement.

Our instructors bring a unique perspective to the EMP. Most have advanced degrees and extensive practical experience.
