SPECIAL SAVINGS
You will note that certain closely related courses are
scheduled in tandem (i.e., Traffic Accident Reconstruction 1 and 2). By
enrolling in both at the same time, the officer can save travel expenses and
time, as well as receiving the instruction in one sequence. You can also save on
multiple enrollments. Send one student at full price. The second and subsequent
students get a 25% discount. This savings is good for all on-campus 2002-2003
courses.
OFF-CAMPUS COURSES
See special registration instructions on page 49. For
information on hosting these and other courses in your area, call 800/323-4011.
Taking Courses Off Campus
The Center for Public Safety offers many
courses off campus for the convenience of students and their agencies, resulting
in reduced travel and living expenses. They are offered either as
open-enrollment courses where anyone can enroll if he or she meets requirements,
or as closed-enrollment courses for a specific agency or group. The Center for
Public Safety can present on-site courses to an agency or a group of agencies
within a specific geographical area or administrative jurisdiction. Most of
these programs are similar in content to those we conduct on Northwestern
University’s Evanston campus. They use a variety of instructional techniques to
enhance course objectives, including lectures, case studies, field projects, and
problem solving exercises.
SPECIAL COURSE DEVELOPMENT
Upon the request of the sponsoring agency, NUCPS staff can
develop training programs tailored to your instructional requirements. The
courses are based on an agreement between your agency and the Center for Public
Safety.
If you have a group of managers to train, NUCPS can present
a custom-tailored seminar at your agency.
STAFF
Off-campus courses are directed and taught by professional
staff members of the Center for Public Safety. Many instructors are all former
law enforcement officers with an aggregate of over 200 years in enforcement
experience. Guest lecturers, including several graduates from the Center for
Public Safety who supplement the faculty, come from other law enforcement
agencies, educational institutions, and national organizations.
STUDENT STUDY MATERIALS
Each off-campus student receives a three-ring notebook
containing selected reference materials and appropriate texts. Students provide
their own pens, pencils and notebook paper, and are required to take lecture
notes.
CERTIFICATION AND COLLEGE CREDIT
A certificate of successful course completion is awarded to
each student who fulfills the following requirements: at least 90% attendance,
passing grade on written examinations, and satisfactory class participation.
Graduates of the School of Police Staff and Command receive 8 units of credit
under the Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies new quarter
system
(read

COURSE COST AND FUNDING
The cost of course presentation is based on tuition,
production and shipping of study and reference materials, and staff expenses.
These expenses include transportation between Evanston and the course site, and
local travel and subsistence during the course presentation.
All off-campus traffic courses may be eligible for federal
funding through the Department of Transportation (DOT).
